Burt Block Party presented by Leopold’s Tavern continues Aug. 16 with The Glorious Sons, Everclear, JJ Wilde, and The Ripperz. Night Sponsor FFUN Motorsports
The Glorious Sons have resolutely manifested all of rock ‘n’ roll’s most positive principles from their very start – creativity and adventure, passion and truth, energy and expression, individuality, and spirit of community. Following a four-year journey fraught with multiple stops and starts, the Kingston, Ont. based band returns with Glory, an album co-produced by frontman Brett Emmons and Frederik Thaae, that fully captures the depth of their vast artistic vision.
The multiple JUNO Award winning, two time Canadian certified platinum and six-time Canadian certified gold rock group, have been on an incredible journey, leading to the meteoric rise of their recognition as one of the commanding forces in rock ‘n’ roll, not only at home but globally. With multiple chart topping hits, the band has gone from headlining clubs to arenas and festival dates, steadily cementing their position as “Canada’s Best Export” (Washington Times), while garnering critical acclaim and a dedicated fanbase. Glory, their fourth studio album, is out now and features their latest single Speed of Light. The Glorious Sons will be joined by Everclear, JJ Wilde, and guests.
Everclear, one of the leading alternative rock bands to emerge from the ‘90s, celebrated their 30th Anniversary in recent years, and founder, vocalist and guitarist Art Alexakis has made it clear that he has no plans to slow down. Since forming in 1992, Everclear has enjoyed a lengthy career by any measure, spanning 11 studio releases, including four that have been certified Gold or Platinum, selling over 6 million records, and achieving 12 Top 40 Hit Singles on Mainstream Rock, Alternative, and Adult Top 40 radio, including “Santa Monica,” “Father of Mine,” “I Will Buy You A New Life,” “Wonderful” and “Everything To Everyone,” as well as numerous videos, thousands of shows, and various other accolades, including a 1998 Grammy nomination.
JJ Wilde is breaking records and helping to break the glass ceiling for women in rock. Her debut single “The Rush” saw global radio airplay, hitting #1 on OUI-FM in France, and spending an unprecedented 10 weeks at #1 on Canada’s three rock radio charts surpassing artists like Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Foo Fighters. That momentum helped propel her to a SOCAN Rock Award, 2021 Indie Award and the 2021 JUNO Award for Rock Album of the Year for her debut album, Ruthless.
The Ripperz are a high-energy rock band from Manitoba, blending punk spirit with heartfelt anthems. Known for raw live shows and deep community roots, they’ve been rocking Winnipeg for over 20 years. The band is currently working on their fourth album – a follow up to 2016’s “Nothing But Teeth”
