The Studio Lounge

A new event space titled “The Studio Lounge” will officially open at the Burton Cummings Theatre for Burton Cummings’ Dec. 28 and Dec. 31 concerts, featuring memorabilia from Cummings’ own collection.

True North Sports + Entertainment has restored second floor space at the Burton Cummings Theatre and will unveil The Studio Lounge for Burton’s two upcoming 75th birthday bash concerts on Dec. 28 and 31. The Studio Lounge features memorabilia from Cummings’ own collection, including hand-written music sheets, awards, photos and instruments. A focal point of the lounge will be the piano he learned to play on in his childhood home.

Refurbishing work has included exposing the original brickwork and restoring the hardwood floors and original windows for the space that was originally the office of Corliss P. Walker, a theatrical entrepreneur who developed the theatre in 1906-07 and from whom the theatre got its original name – the Walker Theatre.

The lounge will offer additional mingling space for ticketholders at all events and an additional bar area. The space can also be booked for special pre-show or off-day events, accommodating approximately 80 to 100 people.

For a limited time, the public will be welcome to visit the new space free of charge on Dec. 28 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Dec. 29 through 31 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Following these days, The Studio Lounge will be open to Burton Cummings Theatre event ticketholders and rentals of the lounge space.
