Indigenous languages play a vital role in the daily lives of the communities NCI-FM serves, not only for communication, but for unique identity, cultural history, traditions and memory. With this in mind, the United Nations has declared 2019 The Year of Indigenous Languages. In order to raise awareness of the crucial contribution languages make, the NCI JAM contestants will be performing at least one verse or chorus in an Indigenous language (a 5 word minimum).
The NCI Jam will also feature a few guest appearances, an induction into the Manitoba Aboriginal Music Hall of Fame and award presentations.
